NPC Basics
There are many different non-player characters, or NPCs, that are
controlled by the game instead of other players. They can greatly aid
you in your travels throughout Sarnaut by providing various services.
For example, there are merchants who buy and sell items, class trainers
that offer various class-related services, and many NPCs that offer
quests for you to do.
Many NPCs are friendly or neutral. Friendly NPCs will not attack
you, and most neutral NPCs will not attack you as well. However, some
neutral NPCs may attack after you attack them first. There are also many
hostile NPCs called monsters. They will attack you if you get too close
to them. However, if you manage to kill a monster you will be rewarded
with experience as well as items.
You can tell if an NPC is friendly, neutral, or hostile by the
color of their name and their health bar. If it is green they are
friendly, if it is yellow they are neutral, and if it is red they are
hostile. To view their name and their health bar, you can mouse over the
NPC or enable the option to always see this information in the
Interface Settings.
Friendly and Neutral NPCs
Many NPCs are friendly or neutral. Friendly NPCs will not attack you
and you won’t be able to attack them. Neutral NPCs will not attack you,
but you can sometimes attack them. However, attacking them will cause
them to attack you in return. Friendly and neutral NPCs that you cannot
attack can sometimes be interacted with in other ways. Many will talk to
you or sell and buy items. You can interact with them by simply
right-clicking on them.
Hostile NPCs
There are also many hostile NPCs called monsters. They will attack
you if you get too close to them. However, if you manage to kill a
monster you will be rewarded with experience. Sometimes you can gather
items from a monster’s corpse as well. To gather the items you can
right-click on the bag that appears near their corpse and then
left-click on the items that appear.
Identifying NPCs
You can tell if an NPC is friendly, neutral, or hostile by the color
of their name and their health bar. If it is green they are friendly, if
it is yellow they are neutral, and if it is red they are hostile. To
view their name and their health bar, you can mouse over the NPC or
enable the option to always see this information in the Interface
section of the Settings window.
After you target an NPC, you will be able to see their character
portrait just like you can when you target another player. The character
portrait will contain their name, level, picture, health, and mana.
NPC Strength
Before attacking an NPC you should gain more information about their
strength by checking their level. Their level is displayed in the
character portrait that is shown when you target them. You can also
determine their strength by the style of their character portrait. The
different levels of difficulty are:
- Green Mobs. These are typical monsters that are not particularly
powerful. They typically drop poor items or common quest items. They can
be found throughout the world and in dungeons.
- Green Elites. These are regular world elites that are only slightly
more difficult to kill than Green Mobs. They can be found throughout the
world.
- Crown Mobs. These are similar to Green Mobs, but always drop an
uncommon item. They spawn randomly, will glow tan, and can be found with
a golden crown above their name tag.
- Silver Elites. These are regular dungeon elites that are quite difficult to kill. They can be found in dungeons.
- Bosses. These are boss elites that are extremely difficult to kill
and always drop a rare item. They can be found throughout the world
(World Boss) and in dungeons (Boss).
